MyMichigan Health completes purchases of hospitals
MyMichigan Health, the Midland-based nonprofit that owns the Alpena hospital, announced on Thursday that it has successfully completed the purchase of Ascension Michigan’s locations in Saginaw, Tawas, and Standish. Jeanne Marie Ordiway, 86, of Pinconning, MI, died peacefully at home on July 26, 2024. She was born September 23, 1937, in Isabella County to Carl Philp and Bertha (Burton) Philp. She was the oldest of six children. Siblings included Beverly Philp, Sharon (Dan) Monroe, Jim Philp, Marilyn Kay Philp, and infant brother, Carl. Jeanne’s parents and siblings all predeceased her.

OSCODA – Participants in the AuSable River Canoe Marathon (ARCM) had a number of fun activities to participate in during the week leading up to the Marathon. On Tuesday, July 23, paddlers, the majority of who were participating in the ARCM, entered the AuSable River at Finish Line Park to participate in the annual Consumers Energy Da$h for Ca$h. Entry in the event was free for ARCM participants and $20 for others. In all 35 teams participated for $5,500 in prize money.

Military jet has emergency over Tawas
At about 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, the Iosco County Central Dispatch received a call of an explosion people believed was from a plane crash in the area of Baldwin Resort Road and Lake Huron. Iosco County Sheriff’s Office deputies along with Michigan State Police troopers, Tawas City Police, East Tawas Police Department, the Tawas City Dive Team, and the Oscoda Township Rescue Dive Team were dispatched to the area to investigate.
Mike Davis and Guillaume Blais win the 76th Au Sable River Canoe Marathon
OSCODA - Mike Davis and Guillaume Blais won the 76th Au Sable River Canoe Marathon on Sunday with a time of 14:35:26. It was the first ever win for Mike Davis, and for Guillaume Blais, it was his second. Although the All-Michigan team of Wesley Dean and Ryan Halstead led for about 13 hours of the race, it was Davis and Blais able to get the come from behind victory. “It was hard going by Wes and Ryan at the end in the shape they were in, but we put on the race we needed to get to the finish line, and I couldn’t be more happy,” said Davis. “I‘m very happy and with the win, it’s my second time it’s a hard race I think is a very close race. So, I’m very happy to win here and win with Mike, he is a very good partner.” Said Blais The two of them paddled together last year, finishing in third place. Coming in first in the Mixed Division was Michael Schlimmer and Eve Chamberland, for the Women’s division it was Michelle Laprade and Cecili Bugge.
