Man on probation charged with robbing and beating 65-year-old victim

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Timothy Brian McCord, 39, was arrested yesterday for allegedly snatching $3 from a 65-year-old victim and then throwing the victim to the ground and kicking him in the ribs.

The victim told a Gainesville Police Department officer that at about 1:55 p.m. on July 10, McCord approached him in the 2400 block of SW 34th Street and asked him for money to buy an alcoholic beverage. He said he told McCord he only had $3, and when McCord asked him for the money, he said no.

The victim said that as he walked away, McCord snatched the $3 from his hands, then grabbed him by the back of his neck and threw him to the ground, then kicked him three times in his rib cage. The victim said he went into the nearby Circle K store and McCord followed him, yelling, “I’ll beat you to death if you don’t go out and make me some money.”

A cashier in the store reportedly said two customers had come into the store and said that McCord had attacked the victim. She said she went outside and saw that the victim was injured and that he said McCord had attacked him. She said the victim asked her to call the police.

The officer reported that the victim was bleeding and sustained multiple lacerations to his face, head, and other parts of his body.

Post Miranda, McCord reportedly denied snatching the victim’s money and denied attacking him.

McCord, whose address is listed as St. Francis House, has been described in court documents as homeless; the most recent document lists his residence as “Other.” He has four felony convictions (three violent) and 36 misdemeanor convictions (10 violent); he is currently on probation and was released from jail in June after serving a six-month sentence for battering a Target employee . He has served two state prison sentences, with his most recent release in 2021. Judge Kristine Van Vorst set bail at $50,000.
