    Hurricane Milton Update #4 – Tropical Storm Warning west of I-75, TS Watch east of I-75, sandbags

    ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – Alachua County is under a Tropical Storm Watch east of I-75 and a Tropical Storm Warning west of I-75. A Tropical Storm Watch means tropical-storm-force winds are possible somewhere within the next 48 hours, and a Warning means they are expected within 36 hours.

    Sandbags

    Alachua County staff will distribute pre-filled sandbags (10 bags per vehicle) at Alachua County’s Wayside Park (11855 NW U.S. 441) on Tuesday, Oct. 8, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. After staffed hours, sand, bags, and shovels will be available for self-service.

    The City of Gainesville’s two locations will operate from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Pre-filled bags will be available at the Public Works facility (405 NW 39th Ave.) and self-serve at Citizens Field (1000 NE Waldo Road).

    Uber rides to/from shelters

    Shelters are expected to open tomorrow, and information will be provided at that time about a code for a free Uber ride to or from a shelter.
