( KRON ) — The Oakland Alameda Water Shuttle will resume service on Friday after a mechanical issue forced it to suspend operations on its opening day, the City of Alameda said.

The free water shuttle will take riders to and from the two East Bay cities. It debuted on Wednesday before damage on the boat forced it to shut down that evening.

More than 775 passengers and 183 bicycles crossed the water before it was shut down. The shuttle’s capacity is 31 people and 14 bikes.

There will be non-passenger test runs in the Oakland Estuary on Friday morning. The first shuttle leaves at 8 a.m.

Welders worked overnight to repair the damage to the boat and make it function again, the city said.

On its regular schedule , the boat is scheduled to run between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
