Alameda Post Calendar 2.0 Cures FOMO

    By Adam Gillitt,

    2024-07-22

The only centralized Alameda event calendar is vastly upgraded and improved

We recently conducted a survey of Alameda Post readers, and the calendar page was listed as the most important content—by a healthy margin. Site analytics confirm that page is consistently among the most popular pages on our site. But readers also voiced complaints about some aspects as well, including how difficult it could be to post, and how the display was not well suited for mobile devices.

As part of our ongoing effort to be your best source for comprehensive information about the city of Alameda, I am pleased to announce that we have updated the event calendar system for the Alameda Post by joining the CitySpark network.

Desktop users will be greeted with this view of our updated events calendar.

Finally, you only need to check one Alameda event calendar to know what’s going on!

The new Alameda Post calendar will pick up event listings from more than two dozen other Alameda calendars, so you can keep up-to-date on all your favorites in one place. The calendar will default to showing events only in Alameda. But, because the new Alameda Post calendar is also part of the larger CitySpark network, users may expand their search area up to a 50-mile radius, which will show events beyond the city limits.

Many other websites within the Bay Area also use CitySpark powered calendars. More than a dozen sites within 30 miles of Alameda are part of the network, including KRON 4, East Bay Magazine, East Bay Times, East Bay Express, Bay Area Parent, and BayArea.com. Events submitted to other CitySpark calendars will appear on our calendar, and our events will appear on their calendars!

    Submit listings to the calendar

Our readers are still welcome—and encouraged—to submit local events via AlamedaPost.com/Events . You can submit your event listing—for free—from a link on the calendar page. All listings are subject to approval, and we will be working behind the scenes to make sure the listings are accurate and useful. We will make Editor’s Picks to spotlight events we think are especially worth your time, and event posters will also have opportunities to highlight and promote their events.

If you’re interested in posting your event to the calendar, please check out our Calendar User FAQ [PDF] to learn how.

I hope you are as excited about the new calendar as I am. Our first attempt at a calendar worked well, but the new calendar provides a much greater reach with a much easier to use interface for posting and viewing events.

The updated calendar is easier to navigate and use on mobile phones, too!

    Having trouble?

If you are having trouble viewing the new calendar, as a first step, please disable your ad blocker or create an entry to whitelist alamedapost.com. If that doesn’t help, the new calendar is backed up by the support staff of CitySpark, who are easily available via email to assist. As well, you can always reach out to us with your suggestions, questions, and concerns by sending an email to calendar@alamedapost.com .
