    New Mexico State Police Report Fatal Shooting Incident in Taos County: Two Dead, Suspect Arrested

    According to a release from the New Mexico State Police, on July 25, 2024, at approximately 8 p.m., the New Mexico State Police (NMSP) District 7 Uniform Bureau in Taos responded to a shooting incident at the Smoke Shop located at 1375 State Road 75. Concurrently, another call reported a male not breathing at 96 Puertocito in Chamisal.

    Upon arrival at the Smoke Shop, officers discovered a deceased juvenile in the parking lot, later identified as Faith Flores. The victim had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries.

    At Puertocito in Chamisal, officers found Ruben Martinez lying dead in the driveway, also suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Manuel Martinez (76) approached an NMSP officer at the scene, admitting his involvement in the incident.

    A revolver was found on the seat of Martinez's truck. The NMSP Investigations Bureau (IB) was contacted. After a thorough investigation, NMSP charged Martinez with two counts of murder. Martinez was transported to the Taos County Adult Detention Center without incident.

    This tragic incident remains under active investigation. The NMSP extends its condolences to the families of the victims and urges anyone with additional information to contact the New Mexico State Police.
