The New Mexico Economic Development Department (EDD) requests public input to inform the statewide strategic plan. As defined in Senate Bill 112, the purpose of the plan is to diversify the state economy away from reliance on natural resource extraction by bolstering economic growth, promoting proactive planning to ensure stable long-term revenues, and supporting the creation of high-quality jobs in renewable energy and other industries.

EDD worked alongside numerous state agencies, regional and local governments, community-based organizations, Tribes, Nations, Pueblos, and industry leaders to create the initial Statewide Strategic Plan, Empower and Collaborate - New Mexico's Economic Path Forward. Updated annually, the first iteration of the plan was published in October 2021 and updated in June 2023, and the agency is now gearing up for this year’s content update.

To this end, EDD is requesting public input to inform this next iteration of the plan. Input can be sent via the online Statewide Strategic Plan Input form. EDD requests the public to consider economic barriers and needs in their community and working environment, the relevance of the state’s target sectors as delineated in prior iterations of the plan, and their ideas about research, initiatives, and opportunities that should be highlighted in the 2024 plan. The form has a link to guiding questions to help organize your response.

The state plan is not intended to be a final step, but rather an ongoing pathway toward unifying New Mexico’s economic development investments and processes. It is a living document, subject to regular updates. Accordingly, the plan will identify actionable items for the state government to take to ensure sustainable growth and economic efficiency over the coming year.

EDD is accepting feedback until August 31, 2024. Please visit the state plan webpage to learn more about the plan’s mission, background, previous publications, data, and more at EDD.NewMexico.gov/state-plan.
