Pablo Vesey Exhibition Continues through August and Upcoming Events at Otero Arts

Via arts snd culture reporting by AlamogordoTownNews.org Otero Arts, 1118 Indiana at 12th Street is hosting on Thursdays through Sunday during the month of August 2024 from 1 pm to 4 pm for the exhibition to celebrate the artistry of Pablo Vesey as the featured Artist of the month at the Art Space Gallery in the historic Women's Club of Alamogordo.

Pablo Vesey has been a professional artist for over 40 years. He has worked in a variety of media including wood, canvas, clay, metal andsemi‐precious stone.

He is recognized for his painting of the Southwest Style murals on the iconic Classic Desert Aire Hotel in Alamogordo, where some of his work is also on display. His works have been showcased at the Roadrunner Galleria (formerly Roadrunner Emporium) at 928 New York Avenue, Alamogordo, the Dancing Dog Gallery, 313 Granada Street, Tularosa and in fine galleries in Taos and Santa Fe.

The artist, Paul Vesey, traces his lineage to the Chiricahua Apache and honors his ancestors through his work by being true to a love of harmony in nature. He has been a professional artist for more than 45 years. His skill is a culmination of a lifetime of experience and a lifelong love of art and nature. “As a child, I liked to draw and my mom encouraged me – at first by giving me comics to copy and then came a set of paints,” he said in an interview with the Las Cruces Bulletin.

Vesey is said to have liked insects and bugs in his youth and they inspired his youthful paintings or works.

Over the years, Vesey claims he has created artwork of different types in about 40 states. He spent many years in Indiana living in a log cabin where his son was born, letting nature inspire his painting.

While working with Mennonites, he learned the art of woodworking and later took that talent to Taos where he received several awards for his furniture creations.

He moved to Alamogordo not fond of the harsh Taos weather, he said Alamogordo offered new opportunities for his family.

About a decade ago, Vesey and his family moved to Alamogordo. He is an impactful artist respected not only locally but around thr nation for his style and artistry.

As a former resident of Taos, New Mexico, he won 1st place in the furniture division at the Taos Art Invitational.

When asked about his approach to painting, he said, “ I don’t really have a particular style. I just paint what inspires me and I guess here in New Mexico it is the land. I especially love the art of the ancient people that lived here long ago and the old pottery designs and petroglyphs.

The Otero Arts exhibition is free and open to the public Thursday through Sunday 1 pm to 4 pm, through the month of August 1118 Indiana Avenue, Alamogordo, New Mexico.
