The Alamogordo Police Department issued the following scam alert as reported by AlamogordoTownNews.organization based on several local residents receiving a blackmail styled email...

We've been alerted to a new email scam making the rounds locally and nationally! Scammers are using online photos of people’s addresses to make their threats seem more real. They claim that if you don’t send them Bitcoin, they’ll release fake incriminating videos of you to your contacts.

If you receive any suspicious emails, phone calls, or texts from unknown sources, do not engage or respond. Instead, report it to a law enforcement agency. You also can report it to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) by visiting: https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/.

An example of a received email that was sent to a citizen is below, not pictured is the online photo of their home.which appears to have cone from google maps.

Stay safe and remember: if something feels off, it probably is! Do not give out personal information or send money to people you don’t know.
