US Army Cancels $2 Billion Extended Range Cannon Artillery Program
In March, Congress approved $886 billion for the Pentagon, in line with the spending limits enforced by the Fiscal Responsibility Act (FRA). The United States Military as a part of that almost $1 Trillion military budget has cancelled two large defense contractor projects that were meant to enhance readiness capabilities as a part of the most recent appropriation. As reported in our recent story the Air Force is scrapping the Airborne High Energy Laser, or AHEL, because it missed its "available integration and flight test window" for operations from an AC-130J Ghostrider gunship amid open-air ground testing.

US Soldier Critically Injured in Noncombat Incident at Gaza, 4 US Ships Became Unmoored
In a release from US Central Command a notice of US Military Injuries sustained while providing release to Gaza this week had occurred. On May 23, a U.S. service member sustained a non-combat related injury aboard MV Benavidez (T-AKR 306) while in support of the humanitarian aid mission to Gaza. The service member was transported to a medical facility and was in critical condition. Since that May 23rd release the Military.com is now reporting that three individuals with the US Military have been injured and one has succumbed to his injuries.

Blue 2 Fire Expands to 6213 Acres, More Evacuations, 475 Firefighters On the Scene
The Blue 2 Fire near Ruidoso is still at zero containment and has doubled on size in the last 24 hours, and double in size the day prior. The burnt average has doubled to 6213 acres. The number of firefighters and support staff has increased to 475 staff on scene. The equipment on site includes 5 helicopters, and 2 bulldozers, multiple slurry planes and more. Even more resources are en route. Firefighters are actively engaging with the fire along the most active areas where it is safe to do so. They are working tirelessly both during the day and at night. Air resources, including helicopters, are used for water and retardant drops whenever weather permits.
