Amongst Flash Flood warnings Wednesday afternoon heavy rain and hail fell around the evacuated village areas near Ruidoso, Ruidoso Downs and areas of the Mescalero Apache Reservation in southern New Mexico threatened by two wildfires that have killed at least two people and damaged an estimated 1,400 structures.

Ruidoso Fires Wednesday Update: 1400 Structures Burnt, 21,000 Acres, One Confirmed Death
An estimated 8,000 people have been evacuated from the area. Village of Ruidoso is under mandatory evacuation. US 70 is closed from mm 249 (intersection NM 244), 4 miles east of Mescalero, to mm 258, 2 miles east of Carrizo. The only available evacuation route is on Sudderth to Highway 70, leading out to Roswell. The Village of Ruidoso had received urgent new information late yesterday regarding the Salt Fire. The fire was then making a significant run towards Ruidoso Downs, posing an imminent threat to the area causing an evacuation of much livestock and the horses around the track areas.
South Fork and Salt Fire Update Tuesday 8 am: 19,000 Acres Burned Evacuations Continue
In the latest release from officials with Ruidoso, the Complex Team will be arriving this afternoon to assume command of the fire and to date there is zero containment with continued evacuations. Weather conditions today are expected to be similar to yesterday's, with winds forecasted at 15-20 MPH and relative humidities in the single digits.

Hotel Fire at Budget Inn Displaces 15 People in Alamogordo
Approximately 15 people were displaced by a fire incident, and all were long term residents in the Budget Inn Hotel in Alamogordo on White Sands Blvd over the weekend. Teamwork between Alamogordo Police Department, Alamogordo Fire Department, American Red Cross and Mountain View Church ensured all affected parties were provided lodging, food and assistance to ensure they had safe lodging for the weekend as reported by Alamogordo Town News.

Update 2:30 pm: Evacuation Order Go; South Fork Fire Near Ruidoso Grows with Air Support
The Ruidoso Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is currently monitoring the South Fork Fire, which is burning on the Mescalero Apache reservation. The fire is approximately 2-3 miles from the Village of Ruidoso limits, specifically near the Upper Canyon area. According to the U.S. Forest Service (USFS), it is approximately 15 acres.
