    FAA awards $186.7M to 90 airport-related infrastructure projects

    The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recently awarded 90 airport-related infrastructure projects in 34 states $186.7 million in Airport Infrastructure Grants (AIG) program grants.

    The program, one of three aviation grant programs created by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, funds airport improvements projects such as terminal expansions and baggage system upgrades, and runway safety enhancements.

    “Millions of people fly every day, and making sure passengers can get to and from their destinations safely, and with less stress, has been a priority for the Biden-Harris Administration,” U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said. “The funding we’re announcing today will help 91 airports make critical upgrades to improve travel and further modernize our aviation infrastructure.”

    Awardees include:

    Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport was awarded $61.8 million to rehabilitate an existing on-airport roadway to provide a path for vehicles to safely operate in movement areas.

    San Diego International Airport was awarded $23.5 million to build a 1.2-million-square-foot terminal building to include 30 gates and related areas.

    Kodiak Airport in Alaska was awarded $19.7 million to reconstruction of Taxiway F pavement to meet FAA design standards and improve safety.

    Pittsburgh International Airport was awarded $20.5 million to reconstruct an existing terminal building to allow for more efficient movement of passengers and baggage.
