Ukraine-Russia latest: US jets intercept Russian and Chinese nuclear-capable warplanes near Alaska

US and Canadian fighter jets were forced to intercept Russian and Chinese nuclear-capabale warplanes after they were detected near Alaska .

The Russian Tu-95MS “Bear” strategic bombers and Chinese Xi’an H-6 bombers were spotted in the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone - but did not enter US or Canadian airspace, US authorities said.

“The Russian and PRC aircraft remained in international airspace and did not enter American or Canadian sovereign airspace,” the US said.

It comes after Russia pulled all its vessels out of the Sea of Azov , a body of water connected to the Black Sea , a spokesperson for the Ukrainian navy said.

Ukraine ’s successful attacks on targets in Russian-annexed Crimea and elsewhere in the Black Sea have forced the Russian navy to rebase many of its ships elsewhere.

“There are no longer any Russian naval vessels in the Sea of Azov,” spokesperson Dmytro Pletenchuk said, adding that Moscow has “begun to suspect something”.

Kyiv does not have a specialised naval branch, but has succeeding in taking out 27 of the total 80 warships Russia had in its Black Sea Fleet before the invasion.
