Researchers Warn of Imminent 'Death Spiral' for Rapidly Melting Alaska Ice Field
The melting of Alaska's Juneau ice field—which contains more than 1,000 glaciers—is accelerating and could reach a tipping point much sooner than predicted, according to research published Tuesday. Supporters of the effort say this would limit the number of cruise ship passengers that visit Juneau each season. The Juneau Assembly has until August 15 to take its own action on the issue.
