According to a recently submitted permit application, Bay Area dining concept Kitava — known for “modern American cuisine with a local twist, with meals centered around nutritious veggies, healthy fats, and mindful proteins” — plans to expand to Albany.

Coming to 1187 Solano Avenue , the eatery will land near establishments such as 5 Tacos and Beers, Hal’s Office Coffee, and Little Star Pizza.

For readers who are unfamiliar with the business, it offers a brief introduction on its website : “Kitava dishes are delicious by design and healthy by default. Our food is hearty and satisfying, made with real ingredients that just taste better.”

The statement continues, “We never use unhealthy seed oils, refined sugars, chemicals, or artificial preservatives in our cooking, and avoid common allergens such as gluten, dairy, peanuts, and soy. This makes our menu friendly for special diets, as well as those looking for relatable food that tastes great and makes you feel good.”

On the menu, locals can expect to find small plates such as fried plantains and crispy brussel sprouts, rice and salad-based bowls, and sides including chile verde pork and kale slaw.

An opening date has not been announced yet, so stay tuned for updates.
