Altamont man charged with abandoning three dogs
ALBANY COUNTY, NY (WRGB) — A Village of Altamont man is facing multiple counts on two animal cruelty charges. On Thursday, Albany County Sheriff’s Investigators arrested William H. Labarr, 33, following an animal abandonment investigation. Labarr is accused of abandoning three blue heeler dogs outside an animal grooming business in the Town of Knox. More specifically, a local citizen reported hearing dogs barking in the early morning hours, and discovered a large crate with three dogs inside covered up with a mattress pad which was secured with an extension cord. The crate was observed with feces on the floor making the conditions unsanitary for the dogs.
Capital Region arts venues celebrate state funding as COVID comeback continues
A coalition of upstate New York theaters is celebrating state arts funding. $5 million in Alive Downtowns! grants was allocated to 13 theaters in the most recent state budget. Speaking Thursday, 109th district Democratic Assemblywoman Pat Fahy says the more than $1.5 million going to the Palace Theater in Albany, Schenectady’s Proctors Theater, and the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall is key to the continued survival of regional arts institutions, especially in the aftermath of the COVID pandemic.
