Manufacturer's $40M expansion seeks tax breaks
Subsidiaries of Swedish industrial conglomerate Atlas Copco have requested financial assistance from the Albany County Industrial Development Agency to support a proposed $40 million expansion project in Voorheesville. <\p> The company is seeking to secure approximately $2.9 million in property tax exemptions and $1.6 million in sales tax exemptions, according to an analysis of the project by Camoin Associates for the IDA. The property tax savings would be realized over a 10-year period, during which time the company would pay $211,000 in lieu of taxes annually. <\p>

Two youths arrested in connection with menacing incident
ALBANY, N.Y. (WRGB) — Two youths have been arrested and a handgun was recovered following a call Tuesday afternoon on South Pearl St. On Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at around 1:25 p.m., officers responded to the area of Albany County Probation Services at 60 South Pearl St. for reports of a person with a weapon. Upon arrival, officers were told that a 13-year-old male was involved in a verbal altercation with several individuals, during which he allegedly threatened them with a handgun, before allegedly fleeing the scene prior to police arrival with another individual.

Guilderland named a pro-housing community
GUILDERLAND — The town of Guilderland is the first municipality in Albany County to be certified as a Pro-Housing Community. Kenneth Kovalchik, Guilderland’s town planner who spearheaded the drive for the designation, estimates that, of the state’s roughly 1,600 municipalities, Guilderland is in the first 10 percent to receive certification.
