    Albany Movement pioneer, founding Freedom Singer Bernice Johnson Reagon dies at 81

    ALBANY – During the 1960s, Bernice Johnson Reagon was a powerful voice for change and equality as part of the Freedom Singers, a group that toured the country in support of the civil rights movement.

    On Tuesday, the civil rights activist, singer, music composer and scholar died at the age of 81. But her legacy will continue, friends said.
