‘Captive State: Louisiana and the Making of Mass Incarceration’ now on view at HNOC
Throughout Louisiana’s history, people in power have used systems of enslavement and incarceration to hold others captive for punishment, control and exploitation. After more than six years of research and preparation, the Historic New Orleans Collection will debut a limited-time exhibition titled “Captive State: Louisiana and the Making of Mass Incarceration” that examines the roots of the state’s current distinction as the incarceration capital of the world.

CENTRAL, La. (BRPROUD) — An officer with the Central Police Department was hit by a vehicle on Sunday morning. According to the police department, Officer Tim Gilbert was conducting a routine traffic stop on Central Thruway before a Ford F-150 pickup truck heading north struck Gilbert and other citizens on the scene on the passenger side window.
