Rotary Club hosts Race to Remember

The Albemarle Rotary Club has everything set for its 3rd Annual Race to Remember.

This 5K and 1 mile run/walk will raise funds for Alzheimer’s research.

Begun in June 2022, this event has raised close to $30,000 to help fund research projects through Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust (CART). This organization was founded in 1995 by Rotary members in Sumter, South Carolina and has now funded more than $10 million in research to seek both a cure and treatments for Alzheimer’s and related dementia diseases.

Since it is operated by Rotary members, all the funds donated are used for research.

This year’s Race to Remember will begin and end at the YMCA Pavilion at 115 C.B. Crook Drive in Albemarle on Saturday. Runners and walkers can do either the 5K course or the 1 mile course. All pre-registered participants will receive a Race to Remember T-shirt.

Louisa Jane Hartsell is the race coordinator and she would like to see more than 100 runners and walkers participate this year. The race begins at 8 a.m., with check-in starting at 7 a.m.

Everyone is invited to participate. Cost is $30 per person and online registration is at www.runsignup.com . Look for the Race to Remember in Albemarle. Donations can also be accepted at www.runsignup.com or at the race.

June is Alzheimer’s Awareness month.

In addition to the race, the Albemarle Rotary Club will host the Friday night dinner at The Rosebriar on June 7 from 5-8 p.m. Ten percent of the proceeds from this dinner will be added to the Race to Remember profits and donated to CART.
