Though initially targeted to reopen Freeborn County Road 26 in Hayward on Friday after the culvert replacement project, the road will now reopen on Monday, according to an update about the project from the Freeborn County Highway Department.

“Unfortunately it will not be feasible to safely open the roadway to traffic until the end of the work day on Monday, Sept. 30,” a press release stated. “Jensen Excavating continues to make good progress on the project, but several unforeseen circumstances has led to the a new target date for opening.”

Motorists are reminded to use the signed detour route that follows County Road 46, County Road 30 and County Road 19 and avoid the work area until road closure signs come down. Freeborn County and Jensen Excavating are committed to completing this project as quickly as possible and appreciate the extra patience shared by residents and businesses. The new culvert and roadway will serve the needs of the community for many years to come.

To receive project updates via email or text message, visit the Freeborn County Website and search for “Notify Me” and enroll in highway updates or visit the Public Works Website and click on “Construction Updates.” If you have questions about this or other county projects call Philip Wacholz, Freeborn County highway engineer, at 507-377-5188.
