New law guarantees domestic workers minimum wage in Rhode Island
Domestic workers in Rhode Island will now be paid the state’s minimum wage under a bill signed into law by Democratic Gov. Daniel McKee. Traditionally, domestic workers haven’t been given that protection as the Rhode Island minimum wage has increased because under state law, they weren’t considered employees.
Tornado touches down in Rhode Island and Massachusetts
Late Thursday, the National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed an EF-1 tornado touched down in Lincoln, RI, tracking through Cumberland, before lifting in North Attleboro. This twister with 100 mph max winds originated near Breakneck Hill Rd., moving off to the east-northeast where it snapped trees in the Lonsdale section of Lincoln. Once it crossed the Blackstone River into Cumberland it continued to topple trees in the Valley Falls neighborhood of town. Eventually, this storm lifted near the Cushman Rd. area of North Attleboro, by Chemawa Golf Course.
DEM Offering Additional Surf and Non-Surf Lifeguard Certification Tests
The Rhode Island DEM has announced additional lifeguard certification testing dates to accommodate the hiring needs of local facilities, especially for college and high school students facing scheduling conflicts with earlier tests.
