ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – New video shows Albuquerque police responding to a man pointing a gun at two people at a northeast Albuquerque gas station. That man turned out to be Bernalillo County Sheriff’s (BCSO) Deputy Micheal Borrecco .

    Story continues below

Police responded to the Circle K on 4300 Osuna Road after getting reports that a man was yelling at two people over a PA system and had pointed a gun at them back on January 24, 2024. The men after exiting the store, heard a PA system and thought it was the store’s system. According to the complaint, the men noticed yelling was coming from a truck parked in front of the store and was flashing its lights at them. The complaint then states the men then noticed the man in the truck yelling at them, threatening to “take their souls,” and pointing a gun at them.

When officers later arrived, lapel video showed Borrecco was sitting in the driver’s seat of the truck. Officers in the lapel ask Borrecco at least twice if he has a gun on him, and each time Borrecco said no. The officer questioning Borrecco then noticed what appears to be a police vest in the passenger seat and the video shows Borrecco telling the officer he works for BCSO and claims to have been with the sheriff’s office for at least 15 years.

The video later shows the officer looking into the truck from outside the vehicle and spots the vest and a handgun. The vehicle was towed and a search warrant was issued according to the criminal complaint. The complaint stated after the search warrant was served, investigators found 2 empty 100ml bottles of vodka in the center console and 17 open and emptied vodka bottles of a similar size in the back.

Borrecco is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and negligent use of a deadly weapon. He was placed on administrative leave from BCSO following his arrest.
