ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Bernalillo County is remembering the four lives lost in the deadly Metro 2 helicopter crash two years ago. In July 2022, the helicopter was returning from helping fight wildfires in Las Vegas when it crashed and killed Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office Undersheriff Larry Koren, Lt. Fred Beers, Deputy Michael Levison, and Bernalillo County Fire Rescue Rescue Specialist Matthew King.

Last month, the National Transportation Safety Board revealed the crash was likely caused by the engine losing power due to “poor maintenance.”

The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office and Bernalillo County Fire Rescue are hosting an anniversary event to honor the four men who died. They will stand watch at the East Mountain Memorial Wall in Tijeras on July 16 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
