ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The 2024 run in the US Open Cup has come to a close for New Mexico United. The black and yellow suffered defeat at the hands of LAFC late Wednesday night.

After conceding a goal in the sixth minute of the match, New Mexico struggled with efficiency past midfield for the rest of the first half. United found the back of the net in the 57th minute courtesy of Greg Hurst, but the black and yellow ultimately fell 3-1.

“We kind of had some self inflicted stuff happen first half, fighting with some of the play to break their press,” said United head coach Eric Quill. “Our fight all night long, I’m super proud of the fight, the desire, the mentality.”

United’s quarterfinal finish in the US Open Cup matches the furthest in the tournament the team has ever gone (2019).
