ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Travelers at Albuquerque International Sunport frequently enjoy live music as part of their airport experience, and the Sunport is looking for more artists to keep the music playing.

“A lot of people are very enthusiastic and grateful that there’s live music in the Sunport.”

Performances can be heard at the Sunport’s Great Hall every weekend, showcasing the diverse sounds of New Mexico with everything from rock to local, traditional-style tunes.

“It’s just really fun to see all these passengers come from all over the world, and when they come down the escalators into the Great Hall, and it’s filled with music, it’s just such a cool, enhanced experience,” shared ABQ Sunport Outreach and Marketing Manager Leah Black.

The program, which has been in place for years, continuously seeks new talent.

“We know that there are new bands forming all the time all over the state. So that’s why we do these call-outs to bring more, just to add to the flavor that is all of the sounds of New Mexico,” Black explained.

Alex Maryol, an artist who has been performing at the Sunport since the pandemic, notes the impact of the program: “I think, you know, it’s no big mystery that we’re not a big, you know, music hub like Austin or Nashville or LA. I think when people come through, it’s like, ‘Oh, there’s talent here.'”

Each year, close to 70 artists perform at the Sunport. As the Sunport approaches the end of its 2025 auditions, there is a push to bring in more artists to share New Mexico’s unique sound. Once construction on the food hall is complete, the Sunport will have two areas dedicated to performances, enhancing the experience for travelers.

Black believes the music significantly contributes to the atmosphere. “I think that it just adds to that whole experience and true sense of place that we want the Sunport to be for people from all over the world.”

For those interested in auditioning for the Sunport Serenades, more information is available here. Auditions close on Monday, July 15.
