ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Albuquerque Police Department is holding crime prevention pop-up events throughout the summer. The events aim to build stronger community connections and make crime prevention information easy to access.

APD is hosting a series of 4 pop-up events during the summer, one in each quadrant of the city. The first event passed and the second pop-up is scheduled for July 20, at Tower Park from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. At the event community members can get free VIN etching, which helps police track your vehicle if it happens to get stolen. Wheel locks will be available at the pop-up and community members are encouraged to use them as them as a way to help prevent stolen vehicles, especially Kia’s and Hyundai’s. Officer Dion Bethea says these are two of most commonly stolen vehicles. The pop-ups will include a crime prevention booth, neighborhood watch sign up and more.

Following the July 20 pop-up, APD will be holding two more events. One will be in the northeast part of the city and the other will be in northwest Albuquerque.
