Albuquerque

• July 26 Doughnuts with a cop – This opportunity to meet local law enforcement at this event at Cottonwood Mall. The event begins at 10:00 a.m.
• July 26 Zoo Music – The final Zoo Music of the season begins at 6:00 p.m. at the ABQ BioPark Zoo. Tickets range from $9 for seniors and ages 3-12 and $18 for adults. NMBPS members get tickets at 50% with valid ID.
• July 26-27 The Show – Albuquerque’s longest-running comedy show happens every Friday and Saturday at 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $12.
• July 27 Downtown Growers’ Market – This happens every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to noon at Robinson Park.
• July 27 Ellington! – A tribute to Duke Ellington put on by the New Mexico Jazz Workshop will be happening at the Albuquerque Museum from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Tickets range from $22-$25.
• July 27 Kids Day at Mama’s Minerals – Free activities include gold panning, wish bottle crafting, slime making, temporary tattoos, and more. The event begins at 10:00 a.m.
• July 27-28 Flea Market – Head to ExpoNM to check out trinkets, charms, and more. Admission is $10 per car or $2 for walk-ups.
• July 28 Neighborhood Day at the Rail Yards – Celebrate the surrounding neighborhoods of the Rail Yards from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
• July 28 Mean Girls at the Lobo Theater – Show begins at 11:30 a.m. $10 for general admission, $25 for brunch and a movie, and $21 for brunch only.
• July 31 Albuquerque Songwriters’ Cooperative Open Mic Night at Ancora – Every Wednesday night, Ancora Cafe and Bakery offers an open mic from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

New Mexico

• July 26 4th Friday – This family-friendly free event will take place at Alamogordo’s Washington Park beginning at 6:00 p.m.
• July 26 Community & Crafts – In conjunction with ArtWalk Santa Fe, this all-ages event is free and begins at 5:30 p.m.
• July 26 Back to School Block Party – A night of fun will be had in Alamogordo with music, games, and more. This event put on by Alamogordo Public Schools begins at 4:00 p.m.
• July 26-28 Rough Rider Motorcycle Rally – This weekend in Las Vegas, the 19th Annual Rough Rider Motorcycle Rally will feature vendors, food, and live music.
• July 27 Saturday Farmers Market – The Santa Fe Farmers’ Market is open year-round on Saturdays in the heart of the Santa Fe Railyard.
• July 27 Roller Skate Nights – Come on down to the Los Alamos Ice Rink for Tropical Night. The event begins at 6:00 p.m.
• July 27 Songs of Summer at Jemez Historic Site – This free concert featuring campers from Hummingbird Music Camp is open to the public and begins at 5:30 p.m.
• July 28 Sunday Chess Club – Popolo’s Games in Taos will host this free chess club open to all ages at 1:00 p.m.
• July 30 Swing on the Plaza – This free event at the Plaza De Las Cruces begins with a free swing dance lesson at 7:00 p.m. and a free dance at 8:00 p.m.
• July 31 No Man’s Land Film Fest – At the Jean Cocteau Cinema in Santa Fe, the premier all-women and genderqueer adventure film festival will kick off at 7:00 p.m.

Albuquerque Notices

🔶 Museum of Nuclear Science and History opening new exhibit – The National Museum of Nuclear Science and History is unveiling a new exhibit: Mission Aerospace. The new exhibit is a multi-layered, interactive exploration of aviation history and aerospace milestones. The new exhibit opens June 22 and runs through October 6.

🔶 Bear captured in Northeast Heights – Staff from Bernalillo County Animal Care Services and the Department of Game and Fish responded after someone said they saw a bear in a yard. The two agencies worked together to capture the bear, who they said was enjoying a sunbathing session.

🔶 City of Albuquerque providing food, clothes for families in need – The City of Albuquerque has several resources available for families who may need assistance with food and clothes during the summer. Resources include summer youth programs, clothing banks, and food assistance.

🔶 Summer program helps Albuquerque students prepare for next school year – Horizons Albuquerque is helping under-resourced students in grades 1 through 11 with the goal of advancing educational equity. Students not only focus on academics, but also learn skills like guitar playing, robotics, and how to swim.

🔶 New mural unveiled on Bridge Boulevard near Tower Road, Coors Boulevard – A mural titled “Glimpses of Our Barrios” is located at the corner of Bridge Boulevard and Tower Road, near Coors Boulevard. An artist named Paz worked with local middle school students to create it. The mural consists of paint and tiles that students helped etch designs on.

🔶 Bernalillo County offering free movie nights at local community centers – The free movie nights will include family-friendly films like 101 Dalmatians and Wonka. The movies will be shown on weekends starting at sundown. Gates open at 7:00 p.m., and moviegoers are welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and snacks.

🔶 City of Albuquerque looking for volunteers to help monitor trails – Trail Watch volunteers work under the Open Space Division and report wildlife and visitor activities, maintenance needs, suspicious activity, and other information. Training and a background check are required to become a Trail Watch Volunteer.

🔶 Free summer lunch program returns in Bernalillo County – Beginning June 3, free lunch will be served daily to children at different locations around Bernalillo County. Children must be between the ages of 1 to 18 years old to receive a meal. Meals must be consumed at the meal site (except for non-congregate sites), all meals are first come, first served, and participants must receive the entire meal.

🔶 Explora hosting Mosaic of Marks, Words, and Material exhibition – The exhibition runs from May 15 – August 16. The exhibit will include an art studio where young visitors, their families, and educators can explore hands-on mark-making materials.

🔶 New Mexico State Fair holding auditions to sing the National Anthem – The live auditions will be at the Boxcar Stage from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the EXPO New Mexico on August 6. To audition live, you must sign up by August 5.

New Mexico Notices

🔶 Free summer food service program for children resumes in New Mexico – The Early Childhood Education and Care Department in New Mexico has begun its free food service for children ages 1-18. The service aims to provide free meals to children during summer break. The department said more than 600 locations in the state are providing free meals through August.

🔶 Controversial development in Los Ranchos gets approval from judge – The Palindrome development first broke ground in 2022 and has faced pushback from residents who felt ignored during the approval process. Earlier this year, residents of the Village of Los Ranchos filed a court injunction against the public-private project. Now, a judge has sided with the developers to allow for the construction of more than 200 living apartments and micro retail spaces.

🔶 Federal judge upholds New Mexico’s gun waiting period law – The Waiting Period Act went into effect on May 15 and was immediately met with a lawsuit . The National Rifle Association of America (NRA) in coordination with the Mountain States Legal Foundation filed the lawsuit against New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and Attorney General Raúl Torrez on behalf of two New Mexico residents.

🔶 New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority announces funding for affordable housing programs – From the homeless to prospective homebuyers, New Mexicans could have more affordable housing options after the Mortgage Finance Authority received nearly $85 million in funding from the state. During a news conference, MFA and partners from Santa Fe to San Felipe Pueblo shared success stories about the impacts funding from MFA has had in the past on their programs.

🔶 Santa Fe selected as finalist to host Sundance Film Festival – The Sundance Film Festival focuses on the independent film industry and the program includes dramatic and documentary features, short films, and episodic content. Other locations in the running include Atlanta, Cincinnati, Boulder, Colo., and Louisville, Ky.

🔶 New Mexico secretary of state addresses misinformation about 2024 presidential election ballot – Social media posts with misinformation began appearing after President Joe Biden announced on Sunday that he would not seek reelection , according to the Secretary of State’s Office. Since Biden decided to drop out of the 2024 race, his campaign will need to file a notarized statement of withdrawal as a candidate to the New Mexico Secretary of State’s Office before August 27.

🔶 Damage to Taos fire hydrants causes 270K gallons of water loss – About 270,000 gallons of water in Taos went to waste after several fire hydrants were opened and damaged earlier this week. The Taos Fire Department is now asking the community to come forward with information about whoever is responsible. The fire department responded to about 11 to 12 hydrants starting at 6 p.m. on Monday night until about 4 a.m.

🔶 New Mexico departments warn older residents about unclaimed property scams – The departments said at least one older New Mexico resident may have been defrauded recently by someone claiming to be affiliated with the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators and was claiming to work on their behalf to recover unclaimed property.

🔶 Rail Runner offering free rides for students – Students ages 17 and under will be able to ride the Rail Runner Express for free starting June 1. The promotion will run through July 31.

🔶 Santa Fe hosts ‘Summer Fire Truck Spray Down’ events for kids – The City of Santa Fe Community Engagement Department and Santa Fe Fire Department are providing a free way for kids to cool down this summer. The departments host “Summer Fire Truck Spray Down” events at Swan Park.
