ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – UNM Football heads into the 2024 season with 60 new players on the roster. It will be a challenge to get a new group to succeed, but it helps that UNM returns Caleb Medford , who is last year’s top Mountain West receiver in terms of yards per catch (18.4).

“I am letting you know, we are going to have a lot of firepower. The offensive room, I think we are probably one of the best rooms in the country, I mean respectively. I think that just everyone else around us is just going to gravitate towards us, and we are going to be able to do a whole lot of damage,” said Caleb Medford. Medford is optimistic coming into this season and after a solid red-shirt sophomore season, where he racked up 2-TDs on 30 catches and 551 yards. Medford believes that his production will only improve with Devon Dampier under center.

“You know, having the experience that he had last year and then coming in and having to lead the charge this year. I mean, it’s a big role, but being here with him last year, I have already had the reps with him, and I think everyone is getting acclimated to him as well, and I think that he is doing a great job,” said Medford.

Medford hopes to help this program succeed on the field, but he is also doing his part off of the field to help the surrounding community. Medford has been a big part of UNM’s Thursday’s Heroes program, and he has also made trips to the UNM Children’s Hospital and various elementary schools for reading programs. This work in the community earned him a spot on this year’s watchlist for the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy, which honors college football’s most impactful leaders in community service. A transfer from TCU, Medford is making the most of his time at UNM.

“It’s amazing, and I have been doing so much here and for this community, and being able to come and allow myself to be around great football players and great coaches, I think I am very excited to be here still and just go up and up every day,” said Medford.

UNM will continue its fall camp for the next four weeks. Lobo Football will open the season at home on August 24, hosting Montana State.
