TDOT work will disrupt traffic this week along Alcoa Highway, I-40

TDOT announced Friday a series of road work projects for this week that could impact area traffic and commuters to Knoxville. The schedule is contingent on favorable weather conditions. Motorists are advised to expect delays and use extreme caution.

    • Crews will alternately close Pellissippi Parkway ramps to Alcoa Highway both North and South from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting tonight, April 8, and continuing through Thursday night as crews perform roadway surface treatment activities. TDOT suggests using an alternate route to Pellissippi during these times.

    • Beginning today and continuing through Friday, April 12, rolling roadblocks will be used between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Alcoa Highway between Woodson Drive and Cherokee Trail. These will take place in short intervals of approximately 20 minutes each and will be spaced out to allow traffic to return to normal flow between operations.

    • Crews will also be conducting flagging operations on the ramp from northbound Alcoa Highway at the traffic signal at Cherokee Trail and along Cherokee Trail between the Alcoa Highway interchange and Medical Center Way. The flagging operations will take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

    • Beginning tonight, and continuing through Thursday, April 11, crews will close the right southbound lane of Alcoa Highway between Cherokee Farms Way and Woodson Drive between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Along Interstate 40 lane closures on I-40 West between mile marker 389 (Hall of Fame Drive) and 387 (17th Street/Western Avenue) in downtown Knoxville will continue nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. for repaving long patches of asphalt. In addition, on Tuesday, April 9, the ramp from Henley Street to I-40 West will be closed, and one lane on the ramp from I-275 South to I-40 West will be closed until 6 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10.
