    Obituary: Mary Lee Meredith Clay

    Mary Lee Meredith Clay

    Mary Lee Meredith Clay passed peacefully away on June 23, 2024, at her home in Christiansburg, with family present. She was formerly of Alderson, WV. She was born January 27, 1929, in Sinks Grove, WV.

    Mary Lee was preceded in death by her parents, William Frank Meredith and Katherine Erwin Longanacre Meredith; her brother, James William Meredith, her husband, Richard Jarrett Clay; daughter, Maryl Lynn Johnson; niece, Sandra Kay Taylor; and sons-in-law, Gregory Lee Mullins and Danny Johnson.

    She is survived by daughter, Iris Lee Clay Mullins of Christiansburg, VA; son, Louis Clifton Clay (Monique) of Kings Mountain, NC; daughter, Lois Elaine Clay of Alderson, and a niece, Kathy Jean Smith of Wooster, OH. She is survived by grandchildren, Richard Tenil Mullins (Lauren), Sarah Marie Mutispaugh (Nathan), Melissa Dawn Miller (Robert), Kristen Lynn Patterson (Justin), Joshua Wayne Lafon (Bridgette), Jarrett Richard Clay (Rachel), Benjamin William Clay, Jeremiah Richmond Clay, Weldon Sears, and Jessica Clay Tucker (James). She is survived by 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

    Mary Lee was a member of Alderson Presbyterian Church and the Alderson CEO. She enjoyed going to church; being in Sunday School; taking car rides; eating ice cream; having ice cream milkshakes; visiting friends, neighbors, and family; and fellowshipping with friends. Her hobbies included reading her Bible and devotionals, doing embroidery needlework, reading, watching old TV shows, Wheel of Fortune, football, horse racing, and golf. She was known for her tasty biscuits and passing down how to make them to her daughters, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. She demonstrated the gift of hospitality to her family.

    She graduated from Ronceverte High School and enjoyed hearing from classmates and going to class reunions. During her lifetime, she worked in a hardware store and in the business offices of stockyards, including Ronceverte, Caldwell, and Alderson. She was a housekeeper for members of the Alderson community and provided private duty sitting for elderly neighbors, friends, and family members. She will be greatly missed by family and friends in Alderson and Christiansburg.

    Funeral services will be Saturday, June 29, 2024, at 2 p.m. at the Lobban Funeral Home Chapel in Alderson, WV, with the Rev. Sam Groves officiating. Burial will follow at the Rosewood Cemetery in Lewisburg, WV. Friends may call Saturday, June 29, 2024, from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lobban Funeral Home in Alderson.

    Family will serve as Pallbearers.

    For those wishing to show an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in memory of Mrs. Clay to the Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 477, Alderson, WV 24910.
