City councillors approve expansion of residential development at former Washington office block
City councillors have given the thumbs up to plans for additional apartments at a former office block in Washington, paving the way for further residential development. The green light was granted by Sunderland City Council's Planning and Highways Committee during a meeting this week, endorsing the application for Derwent House near The Galleries shopping centre. Previously, in 2023, the council had already approved the conversion of the building's ground, first and second floors into homes, which included a total of 24 one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments.
