Springfield Mayor Sarno responds to chaotic Thursday afternoon
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - During Thursday’s police through Springfield, Mayor Sarno told us he was listening to police scanners the whole time following along. He commended the work done by the city’s police officers, however, between that arrest and the shooting where a 16-year-old is charged, he’s concerned for public safety.
1 person seriously injured in Chicopee crash
CHICOPEE, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - Memorial Drive in Chicopee was partially shut down for a serious car crash overnight. Chicopee Police responded to the scene around midnight. When our crews arrived, the car involved appeared to have sustained serious damage, as well as officers blocking off a portion of the road.
DANCE REVIEW: Momix at the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival
Moses Pendleton has been making dances and performance pieces for more than 50 years. He was very good at it when he started, coming out of Dartmouth College in 1971 as a co-founder of the dance company Pilobolus (pilobolus is a kind of fungi), and he has gotten better and better at it over the years. This week his company, Momix, is at Jacob’s Pillow, presenting an eclectic survey of the company’s work over the last 20 or more years. If you look closely at the 16 pieces on the program, you can arguably see some of the arc of Pendleton’s artistic vision. And, as his biography states, over the arc of that career, Pendleton’s artistic vision has focused on “illusionistic choreography.”
Litchfield Hills Brewfest Serves Up Local Tastes
New Hartford’s Ski Sundown hosted the 13th annual Litchfield Hills Brewfest on June 8. A variety of local, regional and national craft beers, wines, ciders and spirits were available for tasting, along with eats from food truck vendors, set to the backdrop of the ski slopes with music by Organized Chaos. Sponsored by Torrington Savings Bank and NeJaime’s Fine Wine & Spirits, event proceeds benefited St. Maron Church, Brooker Memorial and Summit Adaptive Sports.
State Police arrest three people for allegedly driving drunk with children in the vehicle
State Police have arrested three people recently for allegedly driving while intoxicated with children in their vehicles. Andrew P. Smith, 36, of Troy, was stopped on Hoosick Street in Brunswick around 12:30 a.m. on July 21. He was taken to the State Police station, where he recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.27%. – over three times the legal limit. In addition, police said Smith’s license is revoked because of a previous DWI conviction.
