Disruptive incident at Baraga prison brings in teams from Alger County
BARAGA, MI— Help had to be brought into the Baraga Correctional Facility on Friday, after some prisoners became disruptive. The Michigan Department of Corrections says inmates became disruptive and loud in one of the Level V units. Officers responded, but the prisoners did not immediately follow directions and some threatened staff.

Kayaker rescued near Pictured Rocks
MUNISING, Mich. (WZMQ) – A kayaker who was in distress near Miners Beach was rescued in a joint effort on the morning of June 27. According to the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, United States Park Rangers received an urgent call about the kayaker at approximately 10:30 am. Rescue teams from the United States Coast Guard, Alger County Sheriff’s Department, and U.S. Park Rangers began to respond to the scene.

Midwest Grind helping youth players sharpen their skills on the court
ISHPEMING, Mich. (WJMN) – For this group of AAU hoopers, the grind doesn’t stop. “We got a bunch of ten and 11 year old girls from Marquette County, Baraga County and Alger County,” said Ryan Reichel, the head coach for the Midwest Grind AAU team. “Some girls drive up to an hour and a half just to come to practice, but we compile a group of ten girls that practice two days a week for 2 hours each time.”
