California secures federal assistance to support response to Hawarden Fire
SACRAMENTO – Working quickly to bring in additional funding and resources to help fight the rapidly burning Hawarden Fire, Governor Gavin Newsom today announced that California has secured a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to help ensure the availability of vital resources to suppress the fire burning in Riverside County.

LAFD Extinguishes Hollywood Apartment Fire in 41 Minutes, Two Treated for Smoke Inhalation
The Los Angeles Fire Department crews responded to a structure fire in Hollywood that had engulfed part of a three-story apartment building. The fire, reported at 11:22 PM at 7230 W Franklin Avenue, was successfully extinguished by LAFD within 41 minutes of their arrival. Loft Ensemble in North Hollywood has announced the final production of its 11th season, to be staged in Sawyer's Playhouse (the company's Second Stage), the world premiere of No Desire to Suffer Twice by Cris Eli Blak. Directed by Matt Lorenzo (with assistant direction by Matthew Scheel), the cast will feature (in alphabetical order) Antwan Alexander II, Xanxan Beneche, Madylin Sweeten Durrie, Harry Fakoura, Leah Haile, Andre Lamone, Thando Skwatsha, and Esteban Vasquez. There will be 12 performances only beginning Friday, August 9, at 8pm, and continuing through Sunday, September 1.

Son stabs mother to death, injures father in Wilmington attack, LAPD says
A 20-year-old man stabbed his mother to death and injured his father following an attack at their Wilmington home early Sunday morning, Los Angeles police said.The deadly stabbing happened shortly after 12:30 a.m. in the 900 block of N. Banning Boulevard, according to LAPD. Responding officers found two victims at the home suffering from stab wounds -- a 42-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man.Police located the 20-year-old suspect at the scene completely naked and took him into custody. He was taken to the hospital for an evaluation, LAPD said.Police believe the man stabbed his parents in their home overnight, killing his mother in the process and injuring his father, who was taken to the hospital in stable condition. LAPD says he is expected to survive.The woman died at the scene from her injuries.Authorities have not identified the suspect or victims.The motive for the deadly attack is unknown. Police are investigating whether the suspect was under the influence of drugs.
