Bamboo Lemur Conservation Milestone: Endangered Birth at Cotswold Wildlife Park

Cotswold Wildlife Park recently celebrated the birth of one of the most endangered lemurs from Madagascar, a greater bamboo lemur. The baby, whose se$ is not yet known, was born to Raphael and Bijou, a breeding pair at the park. This event is significant, as only 36 of these lemurs exist in captivity worldwide. Cotswold Wildlife Park is one of the few places to successfully breed them, and it is the only UK zoo to do so this year. Greater bamboo lemurs are critically endangered, with just seven zoos globally housing them.

The park participates in a European Breeding Programme (EEP), and this is the fourth consecutive year they have bred this rare primate. Visitors can see the young lemur exploring its habitat in the Lemur Exhibit Madagascar. Cotswold Wildlife Park actively supports conservation efforts in Madagascar and globally, ensuring the survival of these unique animals while raising awareness about their plight.
