Here is why you should choose Xeriscape over grass

    2021-08-22

MESA, AZ - The City of Mesa is spreading out the Sustainability Saving Tips campaign for residents to switch from their lawn to Xeriscape. The city also offers up to $575 incentive to aid residents in creating Xeriscape.

According to a notice from the City of Mesa, Xeriscape is a landscape design that puts the water consumption consideration in the making. Xeriscape is an alternative to décor your landscape without using too much water as a more conventional lawn such as Bermuda grass.

Here are the reasons why you should replace your lawn with Xeriscape. The first one is time efficiency and saving. If you have grass on your landscape, you need to mow it at least once every one or two weeks. Not to mention the time you have to spend in seeding and mowing tool maintenance.

The second is water-saving. Xeriscape needs only half or even two-thirds less water than the Bermuda grass that usually needs 60 inches of water per year. Meanwhile, living in desert areas like Arizona could only get about eight inches of rainfall per year and water-saving is every desert city’s campaign.

Aside from water-saving, Xeriscape is also could help the city to maintain its water quality by using fewer fertilizers and pesticides. Note that the chemicals in fertilizers and pesticides are one of the most common water pollutants.

The third and the most distinctive advantage of Xeriscape compared to grass is there will be no more mowing. This would lead to less effort and time spent taking care of your landscape. Besides, gas-powered mowers generally come in two-cycle engines that could increase the ground-level ozone build-up in residential areas.
