Maricopa County grants $500,000 to Town of Gila Bend to help the flood recovery

GILA BEND, AZ - Maricopa County has announced that the Board of Supervisors agreed on the $500,000 grant as the Town of Gila Bend's recovery assistance due to the flood on Saturday, August 14, 2021. This approval followed the Board of Supervisors Chairman Jack Sellers' statement of local emergency due to the flood.

The rainfall was recorded to reach four inches in just early Saturday morning with the flood damaging several homes and businesses.

Prior to the fund grant, Maricopa County has put various recovery efforts to help the Gila Bend recovery including deployment of various teams from the Maricopa County Departments of Emergency Management and Transportation and the Flood Control District to the flood site. The teams also aided the road clearance, resources distribution, and damage assessment.

On Thursday, August 19, 2021, the Town of Gila Bend held an emergency council meeting regarding the flooding event. The council also stated what move the town would take regarding the recovery. The council also invited Steve Gallardo and Clint Hickman from Maricopa County Supervisors as well as news media members.

Maricopa County also offers Individual Assistance Center or IAC for residents of Gila Bend that can be accessed here. This IAC program aims to help residents and business owners to find various resources.

In addition, Maricopa County also provides computers and other assistance for those in need. The computers are available at the Gila Bend Library at 777 N. Logan Avenue, Gila Band. The library also staffs assistances during the library’s daily business hours and free WiFi that can be accessed after hours outside the library.
