465 properties in City of Maricopa removed from new flood map

    2021-08-24

MARICOPA, AZ - On August 23, 2021, Rodolfo Lopez, the Development Services Director of Maricopa City, stated that there are 465 properties that are now removed from the high-risk flood zone. Those properties are mainly located in the heritage district.

Following the statement, the City of Maricopa has requested FEMA to update the flood hazard map by removing those 465 properties from the map. On the other hand, there will be new 116 properties that probably will enter the revised flood map.

The City of Maricopa will notify every resident whose properties are included within the new flood map. They will be notified when their properties are removed, included, or stayed in the same flood risk mapping. Those who are in the high-risk areas are recommended to have flood insurance as well as those properties whose mortgages are backed by the government.

In addition to the new map, FEMA stated that there will be a 30-day comment period and a 90-day maximum appeal period before the effective date. Every property owner can send their comments and appeals regarding the new map to DSD@maricopa.az.gov. The map is expected to be released before the end of 2021 after the comment and appeal period ended.

The map revision and details can be viewed at the City Hall front counter at 39700 W. Civic Center Plaza. All citizens can also contact the city staff at DSD@maricopa.az.gov or call the City of Maricopa at (520) 316-6922.

The City of Maricopa also stated that flood insurance is also recommended for everyone although they live outside the high-risk area.
