DFFM established the Post-Wildfire Infrastructure Assistance Program to help everyone impacted by wildfire

    2021-08-24

PHOENIX, AZ - On Friday, August 20, 2021, the Department of Forestry and Fire Management, or DFFM has established the Post-Wildfire Infrastructure Assistance Program to aid everyone whose properties have been damaged by wildfires. This is part of DFFM’s $100 million investment into Arizona State.

A $10 million part will be available for the public who are affected by wildfires or other fire extinguishing activity that happened from July 1, 2020, until the present day.

The Post Wildfire Infrastructure Assistance Program was approved by the HB 2001 legislation after the wildfire event in Gila County on June 18, 2021. Moreover, HB 2001 also grants $25 million for the Healthy Forest Initiative, $19 million for wildfire extinguishing funds, $36 million for fire-related flood mitigation projects, and another $10 million to aid the DFFM in purchasing new and upgraded communication infrastructure.

From the day HB 2001 approved the program, DFFM has given a total of $4.3 million of financial assistance to many counties from the $100 million fund. In addition, DFFM has also agreed to 75 resource requests from Gila County as the most impacted area in 2021. Those resources include sandbagging machines, flood barriers, heavy equipment, and several other flood-related tools in anticipation of other flood events.

You may apply to the Program’s aid by visiting this page for more information. In general, the grant will be limited to the applicants that meet the criteria including being the most significantly impacted as well as those whose needs were not approved by other funding sources and can show that the Post Wildfire Infrastructure Assistance Program is the last choice of the payer.
