CCC and Phoenix Truck Driving School provide Commercial Driving License courses in Flagstaff

    2021-08-31

FLAGSTAFF, AZ - Coconino Community College, or CCC, is now partnering with the Phoenix Truck Driving School to provide a four-week course of commercial driver’s license or CDL. This program is also supported by the ARIZONA@WORK program and funded by the Workforce Innovation Opportunities Act.

One of this program’s students is Lisa Black. She said that this program means a lot and help her through the Class A CDL tests. She is now applying to be a commercial truck driver after knowing that a Class A CDL driver could make a higher income to finance her two children.

Class A CDL is required to drive a semi, 18-wheeler, tractor-trailer, and several other big vehicles.

Black enrolled herself in ARIZONA@WORK and was granted a cost-free lesson and went through the lesson in June at the CCC Fourth Street Campus. The first week's lessons are all inside a classroom to learn about 36 sections of vehicle and traffic laws. In the second week, learners will be given the lesson to inspect the cab, the engine, exterior, suspension, brakes, and many more.

Before going through the third week, all students have to undergo a drug screen. After that, they will learn the “yards skills,” including double clutching, shift, downshift, and park big vehicles. The last week will be driving in real-life condition roads and highways. After that, students will go through some tests at Motor Vehicle Division.

This program by CCC aims to help many people to get driving licenses and opens the way for many people to driving-related jobs. On the other hand, ARIZONA@WORK also aids people to get the skills they desire to get a good job.
