Lansing/New Albin Police Department will be without personnel following recent resignations effective July 26
The Allamakee County Sheriff’s Department has been called upon by the communities of Lansing and New Albin to assist in providing temporary law enforcement coverage in those two communities following the recent resignation of Chief of Police Conrad Rosendahl, and more recently, the resignations of the two remaining officers in the department, Darby Stone and Troy Riehm. Chief Rosendahl’s resignation became effective June 26, as he began a new job as Chief of Police for the City of New Hampton July 1.
JOIN The FUN AT THE Allamakee County Fair THIS WEEK
Pork Tornadoes to headline Friday's grandstand entertainment; Variety of activities and events planned. This week, July 17-21, the 171st Allamakee County Fair will be held for all to enjoy at the Allamakee County Fairgrounds in Waukon. A wide variety of entertainment is in place to headline this year’s Fair at the grandstand, along with a great deal of other activities for everyone to enjoy each and every day throughout the five-day event.
Growing in the garden at recent youth sessions ...
Gardening and pizza went together perfectly in Waukon and Lansing at recent youth sessions hosted by Allamakee County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. Youth learned the different parts of a plant, and how each part is edible depending on the fruit or vegetable. It was discussed which parts help make a pizza, while everyone designed their perfect pizza. Ideas ranged from pepperoni to ice cream to candy pizza. Youth used English muffins to make personal pizzas for lunch.
Supervisors hear update on Sheriff’s Department coverage of Lansing and New Albin after police resignations
The Allamakee County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Monday, July 15 to address a full agenda of matters including the consideration of the Resolution for the Destruction of Noxious Weeds, consideration of the appointment of a Harpers Ferry Library Board rural representative, and an update relating to the Lansing Police Department and New Albin law enforcement coverage.

To date, Growing Projects has raised over $47 million to support agricultural development programs around the world, which helps those struggling with hunger to help themselves through farming. These programs have served over 2.3 million people.

Robey Memorial Library’s “Read, Renew, Repeat” Summer Reading Program 2024 begAN Monday, July 1 and runs through Wednesday, July 31. Activities include Reading Challenges with prizes for all ages, Kids and Teens Grab-and-Go Activity Bags, craft events and fine forgiveness. This summer’s activities are further described below.
Robey Memorial Library to host Open Class Workshop in conjunction with the Allamakee County Fair
Anyone who has ever wanted to enter something they made into the county fair but who is not sure how to do it should attend the Open Class Workshop Wednesday, July 10 at Robey Memorial Library for a short “how to” with a county fair board member and fair judge on open class exhibits. The Allamakee County Fair starts July 17, so there is still time to complete an exhibit project.
