B-R’s Buchholz, F/S’ Ross named county league MVPs
MVP Trey Buchholz led five Bolivar-Richburg players selected to the recently announced Allegany County Athletic Association baseball all-star team. Buchholz, a senior pitcher/shortstop, was joined on the 13-member all-star team by four teammates: senior pitcher/first baseman Caden Allen, senior center fielder/pitcher Reiss Gaines, senior catcher Aydin Sisson and junior middle infielder/pitcher Landon Barkley. The Wolverines won the league at 12-0 in ACAA play.

Wellsville Man Charged with Murder in Steuben County
WOODHULL, NY (WENY) -- A man from Allegany county is in the Steuben County jail, charged with murder after a man was shot to death Saturday morning. The Steuben County Sheriff's Office arrested 24-year-old Bradly Maddalena of Wellsville Saturday, and charged him with second degree murder. According to authorities, Steuben County 911 received a call around 8:45AM Saturday morning, where the caller said they had been in an alternation with another person in Woodhull, and the caller had fatally shot the man.
State Police Have Not Given Up On An Allegany Co Homicide Case
Allegany County- The murder of Ray Cornelius of Ward continues – Buffalo media now investigating UPDATED. Ray Cornelius, was an 82-year-old man who was fatally shot inside his home in the Allegany County Town of Ward. NY state police along with the investigative team with WGRZ, Channel 2 in Buffalo, are digging in to this case. Wellsville Regional News broke this story and has never really let up. Now, though, Channel 2 in Buffalo has taken an interest in what is called a ‘cold case’ from 2017. During my reporting, lead state police investigator Jed Murphy took issue with the phrase ‘cold case’. In a 2017 interview, Investigator Murphy said this is a “challenging case…one that has kept him up at night.” Murphy said this afternoon (at the time) that this case has “taken time,” and a case that the six BCI officers are “definitely working.” To the family, Murphy said that they can “call me anytime.”
Town of Scio Public Hearing set for July 10 at 530pm
The meeting will address $2.85 million dollar proposed water district improvements. NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Town Board of the Town of Scio, Allegany County, New York, will meet at the Town Hall, in Scio, New York, in said Town, on July 10, 2024, at 5:30 o’clock Prevailing Time, for the purpose of conducting a public hearing upon a certain map, plan and report including an amended estimate of cost prepared in relation to the proposed increase and improvement of the facilities of the Scio Water District in the Town of Scio, Allegany County, New York, being the replacement of the water storage tank and reconstruction of water mains and related facilities, including original furnishings, equipment, machinery, apparatus, appurtenances, and incidental improvements and expenses in connection therewith. The new maximum estimated cost of the aforesaid increase and improvement of the facilities of the Scio Water District in the Town is $2,850,000, consisting of an increase of $300,000. Said capital project has been determined to be a “Type I Action”, pursuant to the regulations of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation promulgated pursuant to the State Environmental Quality Review Act (“SEQRA”), the implementation of which as proposed, it has been determined, as such, will not result in any significant environmental adverse impact. SEQRA compliance materials are on file in the office of the Town Clerk where they may be inspected during regular office hours. At said public hearing said Town Board will hear all persons interested in the subject matter thereof.
