Allegheny County Police are investigating the death of a man who was found unresponsive while in custody of West Mifflin Police.

Officers say a 31-year-old male was taken into custody around 3 a.m. on July 5 on public drunkenness charges.

He was placed in a holding cell inside the West Mifflin Police Department, falling asleep.

Around 12:30 p.m. the next day, officers found the man unresponsive. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

On July 8, the man was pronounced brain dead. He died on July 10 and the death was ruled a homicide.

Through an investigation, officers learned that the man was struck in the face inside a home in Versailles Borough by another individual. That person reportedly took the man wo the Uni-Mart on Worton Boulevard and left him there after he regained consciousness.

No arrests have been announced and anyone with any information is asked to call the Allegheny County Police tip line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS.
