Long-time Allentown law firm offices getting a major makeover

There’s been a great deal of redevelopment in downtown Allentown in recent years with new office buildings, attractions and apartments springing up. And inspired in part by all the activity, one of the city’s long-time office buildings is getting an upgrade.

The law firm of Gross McGinley LLP, headquartered in Allentown since its founding in 1976 and in its current building at 33 S. Seventh St. since 1986, is beginning a major overhaul of the building it calls home.

Gross McGinley, which shares the space with its one tenant, Erickson Financial, is undertaking its first major renovations to the building since the firm first converted the building from manufacturing space.

“We’ve done some hodgepodge things over the years, but this is our first major overhaul,” said Sam Cohen, firm partner and manager of Allentown Crown Tower Associates, which manages the building.

While this project is not connected to the redevelopment in the city’s Neighborhood Improvement Zone, Cohen said that work did inspire the renovations.

“We see all the development going on around us and we were feeling a little dated,” said Cohen. “That and our faade was starting to fail, so we felt it was time to invest in our infrastructure.”

He said the project will be modernizing the look of their building so it will better fit into downtown’s newly revived landscape.

Besides the facade work, the firm is adding a new conference center, which is being designed to improve client service.

There will be a major upgrade to the firm’s conference rooms offering the latest in technology and design.

Upgrades will also be made to the elevator system and windows focusing on safety and efficiency.

Paul McGinley, one of Gross McGinley's founding partners, offered his thoughts on the project.

“Gross McGinley recognizes the rapid changes in law and the evolving needs of clients. We continually adapt at an accelerated pace to successfully manage the multiple demands of clients simultaneously,” he said

Cohen said the privately funded project will propel the firm into the future allowing Gross McGinley to provide superior support and service to its clients and the Lehigh Valley community.

“Gross McGinley is evolving with its clients and employees, enhancing its capabilities to communicate virtually 24/7,” added Jack Gross, Gross McGinley's managing partner.

Throughout the four-month planned renovation, Gross McGinley will remain open and operating at the Allentown location as well as its other offices in Easton and Stroudsburg.

Cohen said the firm doesn’t expect the upcoming work to cause any interruption in services and it will be business as usual for clients.

“We’re here and we’re operating,” he said.

The cost of the project was not disclosed.
