An Allentown School Board member has resigned after six months in the position.

Daysell Ramirez, who was elected in November, stepped down from the board, citing “bullying” and “poor professionalism,” according to a resignation letter shared on Facebook.

“My values and work ethic do not align with the Allentown School District Administration, Legal Counsel, and some board members,” she wrote in the letter.

While Ramirez was not mentioned by name during Thursday’s board meeting, her resignation was approved in the Board of Directors Report , which included a motion to accept her resignation. The vote was 6-0.

An executive session before the meeting addressed private matters including “confidential matters pertaining to personnel [and] informational matters regarding the board vacancy process,” board President Adrene Brown-Nowell said.

Ramirez’s vision for the district was to “advocate for the implementation of trauma-informed education in our schools that focuses on equity, cultural responsiveness and social-emotional learning,” according to her profile on the district website, which was still active as of Friday. She is a parent of a student in the district.

The board will now hold public interviews for candidates seeking to be appointed for the open seat. According to state law, the board has 30 days to fill the vacancy by a majority vote.
