Lehigh Valley International Airport reported a record number of passengers for June.

The airport in Hanover Township, Lehigh County, said 98,589 passengers passed through its gates during the month, a 17.1% increase from June 2023, which had 84,192.

“There’s been a noticeable jump in activity within the facility as the summer vacation season is in full swing,” said Tom Stoudt, executive director of Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority, which oversees LVIA. “The record number of travelers reflects the growth of leisure destinations and excellent connectivity when choosing ABE [the airport code]. We appreciate the airport staff and stakeholders that continue doing a fantastic job delivering first class customer service.”

American Airlines saw an increase of 37.3% from LVIA over the year, while Allegiant jumped 22.7%. Delta was up 1.7%, while United was down 15.6%

Nationally, air travel numbers are also up . The Transportation Security Administration said it screened nearly 3 million passengers June 23, a single-day record. The TSA reported an average of 2.73 passengers per day in June, making it the busiest month ever.

More than 18 million pounds of air cargo was processed through LVIA in June — a decrease of 14.6% from June 2023. Numbers traditionally pick up toward the holiday shopping season.
