The neighboring communities of Alliance and Sebring will have Fourth of July festivals on Thursday.
Here's a look at both events:
In Alliance, Silver Park is the place to be for July 4 activities
The city's annual Independence Day Fireworks Celebration starts 5 p.m. in Silver Park at 2930 S. Union Ave. There will be food trucks, live music with the John Hampu Band, and a free fireworks show at dusk.
This year's event also will have free military history on display.
The Marlboro Volunteers Inc. Mobile Military History Museum will have information and artifacts from the French and Indian War (1754-1763) to present-day combat for people to see and read.
The Independence Day Fireworks Council and the City of Alliance Department of Parks and Recreation are hosting the event. Parking in the park will be limited and some food trucks will only take cash.
Niki Mcilvain, a park official, said all food, music and activities will end at 9 p.m., so people can get ready for the fireworks. "The fireworks will launch from the baseball field area," she added.
In Sebring, Southside Memorial Park is the spot for July 4th fun
The village will celebrate the Fourth of July holiday with events all-day, with most at Southside Park.
Katie Kent, director of Sebring Parks and Recreation, released the schedule of events and the fireworks show is at dark. Additionally, people can swim for free from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the village's pool.
The other events are:
Breakfast at St. Ann Catholic Church, across from the Southside Park, from 7 to 10 a.m.
Registration for Firecracker 5K Race opens at 7:30 a.m., and the race starts at 8:30 a.m.
A chalk drawing event will be at the pool from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
A Junior Olympics competition for children ages 4 to 12 will be at the soccer field. It starts at 10 a.m. and includes water events.
The annual Ray Heverly Softball Game between police officers and firefighters begins at 1 p.m.
There are pool games from 2 to 4 p.m., kickball at 4 p.m. and a volleyball tournament at 5 p.m.
The Sebring cheerleaders are having a donations-only bake sale, and there will be four food vendors. Uptown, a local band, will perform 6 to 10 p.m., and the reading of the Declaration of Independence takes place at 9:45 p.m. before fireworks.
