Two popular Greater Alliance Carnation Festival events have new locations for the 2024 event.

The Flower Show and Community Luncheon both have relocated.

The Community Luncheon, set for 11:30 a.m. Aug. 3, will be at Alliance Area Senior Center this year. It normally is held in a cafeteria in Hoover-Price Campus Center at University of Mount Union. Road construction this summer has forced the move.

Tickets remain for the luncheon, and can be purchased for $15 apiece at CompuTek Computers, 703 S. Union Ave. in Alliance. The speaker this year is a very special guest, Mike Lamborn, the great-great-nephew of Levi Lamborn, who created the scarlet carnation that is at the center of the city’s annual festival.

Also in a new location for 2024 is the annual Flower Show, which will be open for viewing from 1 to 5 p.m. Aug. 3 in Art Gallery Hall in the Giese Center at University of Mount Union.

Those entering flowers in the show can drop them off 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 2 and 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Aug. 3. Judging, which is closed to the public, will run 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Aug. 3.

Musical acts set for Days in the Park

The schedule of musical acts performing during Days in the Park, from Aug. 7-10 at Silver Park, has been announced.

Performers will be on stage 6 to 9 p.m. each night. Scheduled to play are:

    Aug. 7 – Buckshot

Aug. 8 – Take Me Back

Aug. 9 – In Like Flinn

Aug. 10 – John Hampu Band

Shows are free and open to the public. Days in the Park is open from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 7-9; and 1 to 10 p.m. Aug. 10.

Golf outing registration closes July 26

The 29th annual YWCA Carnation Golf Scramble will have a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Aug. 2 at Tannenhauf Golf Club, 11411 McCallum Road in Lexington Township. The event is a four-person Florida scramble.

Entry fee is $80 per person, which includes lunch. Teams can have four males, four females, or a mixed team, which must have two women. Among the games on the course is a $1,000 hole-in-one contest.

Deadline to register is July 26. Download entry forms at allianceywca.org or tannenhaufgolf.net. Make checks payable to YWCA of Alliance.

US Coach to offer shuttles during festival

US Coach again in 2024 will have shuttle buses running during key Carnation Festival events.

Shuttles will run during the Carnation Food Fest, which runs Aug. 1-3; and Days in the Park, which runs Aug. 7-10.

Carnation Food Fest again this year will be at the University of Mount Union Campus Lakes. Shuttles will be running at 30-minute intervals with pickups from lots at Alliance Intermediate School, Alliance Elementary School and the front parking lot at Alliance High School.

For Days in the Park, visitors will be picked up from the Caboose Parking Lot on East Main Street in Alliance, and from Alliance High School’s front parking lot. The passengers will be dropped at Alliance Middle School lot, where a loop bus will take them to and from Silver Park. The shuttles will travel in 30-minute intervals.

    Carnation Food Fest will run 4 to 11 p.m. Aug. 1; and noon to 11 p.m. Aug. 2-3. Days in the Park is open 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 7-9; and 1 to 10 p.m. Aug. 10.

Learn about Alliance’s history during tours

Four historic sites will be open for guided tours during the Greater Alliance Carnation Festival.

Those interested can learn about Haines House, Mabel Hartzell Historical Home, Alliance City Cemetery and also take the new, self-guided East Main Street Historic Walking Tour.

A donation of $5 per adult is suggested for tours of Haines House, at 186 W. Market St.; and the Mabel Hartzell Historical Home, at 840 N. Park Ave. Those ages 12 and younger can take the tour for free.

Free tours of the cemetery will be 2 to 4 p.m. on Aug. 4 and Aug. 11. Those taking part should meet at the chapel.

A paid tour of Glamorgan Castle will be available from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 3-4. A donation of $10 per adult is suggested. Children ages 10 and younger can enter for free.

The new, free, self-guided East Main Street tour also is available to those interested at any time. Signs hung throughout the street contain QR codes that permit those using a smartphone to learn more about the 32 sites.

Among the spotlighted sites is the Lamborn Building, No. 14 on the route. The Tutor Revival-style building, built in 1925, is at 426 E. Main St. The building is one of the largest on the street, with the original building facing East Main and an addition that faces Prospect Street.
