Summer projects on tap in Hancock
HANCOCK — Hancock crews will be busy with several infrastructure projects throughout the summer. MJO Construction will be doing sewer improvements at locations around the city. That includes lining some areas, digging up certain areas and replacing the pipes, and also doing some televising of the sewer structures. The work is part of the city’s asset management plan for the sewer fund.

Tech named a Best Value College for 2024
Michigan Tech has been recognized as one of the nation’s best colleges for students seeking a great education with excellent career preparation. The Princeton Review named Michigan Technological University as one of its Best Value Colleges for 2024 on June 20. The education services company reports seven categories of ranked lists. Among the nation’s public colleges and universities, Michigan Tech was named No. 2 on the list of Best Schools for Internships, No. 9 for Best Career Placement and No. 18 for Best Schools for Financial Aid. In the Best Value Colleges category, solely based on return on investment, or ROI, Michigan Tech was ranked No. 33.

LAKE LINDEN — Superior Service and Gold Standard both improved to 2-1 on Monday night with wins at the Boneyard. In the first game, Superior Service did it with their bats, winning 13-1 in just five innings against Tervo Agency. In the nightcap, Gold Standard earned a 9-4 win over Superior National Bank behind pitcher Emily Jokela.
Canal Run in 49th year
The UP’s annual Canal Run will return on July 20 for its 49th year. The event has options for a half-marathon, half marathon wheelchair division, 10-mile run, 10-mile walk, five-mile run, five-mile blade division, five-mile walk, and two-mile run/walk. The run features a course along the Portage Canal. There are discounts for early registration and teams. Participants also get a free T-shirt, high quality photo downloads after the race, and custom awards for top finishers! Registration is open now at canal.run/race/info.

Police looking to speak with driver of truck that damaged Hancock park
HANCOCK, MI— The City of Hancock and Hancock Police Department say they’ve identified the driver of a truck that damaged a city park Friday. At approximately 10:40 p.m., a white truck drove over the grass and onto the boardwalk at Porvoo Park. When the driver tried to turn around, the truck broke boards on the boardwalk and damaged a railing.
